Vacation Training vs Certification Training
Просмотров 1593 месяца назад
We often get the question, can I get a sailing certification when I go on a sailing vacation? While it is possible for the experienced and competent, it is not the best use of time and others' expectations of the boat usage while on a vacation. Gaining a Sailing Certification requires repetitive training to build muscle memory and an extensive assessment of many required skills. Usually, it is ...

Don't learn maneuvering in a real marina. Do it in Virtual reality first. With our VR program, we have matched the physics of a real boat - the rate of turn with and without thrust, the momentum, reversing, propwalk, and more. Practice all this in our virtual marina - change wind directions and wind speed. Get into tight slips - get out of tricky situations. Visit www.nauticed.org/sailing-cours...
Mediterranean Mooring - moving the boat upwind

Use this trick to help you in a Mediterranean mooring situation when the wind is pushing you around. Rather than struggle with hauling on docklines, just use a little power and work the helm. This is a Virtual Reality walk around of a sailing dinghy and the parts of the sail and the sail controls. Being in VR is so totally amazing and an incredible learning experience. Then once you learn these, get out on the water - either virtually or for real and win ra...
Spring line usage and staying calm at the dock

This video is about how you can control the boat at the dock with a springline and forward gear working the helm left and right. You may not use this exact scenario but the point is that you can totally stay calm and maneuver the boat simply as you need even with a significant side wind. Many times you just need to move the boat sideways in a med moored situation at the dock - in that case, you...
Polar plot - true wind - apparent wind explained for upwind directions

Polar plots made easy plus how to determine the true wind and apparent wind boat speed triangle. This video dives deep into how to understand a polar plot for any wind speed and any wind angle to the wind. In this video, we present the boat going at upwind angles. How to Determine What Tack Another Sailboat is on.

This works for me in the real world not just the virtual world. It may or may not for you. I look at the other sailboat and in my mind, I tele-transport myself onto their boat. When on their boat, it is easy to determine which tack they are on because of the heading and wind direction. Then back on my boat, I can then make a decision about who gives way. I'm sure some will call me weird - just ...

Nope no damage. Agreed that the best practice is to use a fender and for leaving docked temp or permanently. Hopefully, you can find something positive in this video regardless and learned something new about different techniques.

The angle of attack is more a function of pulling the sheet. I would think that changing the twist is changing the camber of the airfoil until it starts spilling air. Angle of attack is the angle between the chord line and the relative wind.

The reason why is the same as to when driving uphill the driver who goes downhill gives way to those climbing. Ship that is going upwind cannot easily change course due to their dependency on the wind, while those going downwind can change course safely without risking to stall

There is a notable word track that the poster used here (at 1:15) when he spoke of removing twist by tightening the boom vang. He said we are "pulling the boom down". This is important (especially for those new to sailing) because the amount of twist is directly related to your boom height (or up/down angle). And you control boom height either with boom vang (when the boom is out) or traveller and main sheet (when the boom is in over the traveller).

Kind of perfect conditions guys, for the purpose of demonstration, it was very clear. I think we all know that that chances of getting perfect conditions each time just does not happen. Possibly a follow on to this video would be something more commonly found i.e when your trying to do this manoeuvre where there is a boat both bow and stern or if the system would work going into a finger pontoon rather than a hammerhead. Still thanks for posting, appreciated !
